My Review (or incessant fangirl ravings, as the case may be):
*Warning ~ mild spoilers may occur here*
My poor little black heart was obliterated at the end of Lying Season. Pulverized, smashed, crushed, shattered into a million little sparkly bleeding dark pieces. Seriously. Okay, well...almost. It did hurt. And, in my typical fashion with Halle books, I had stayed up entirely too late reading it but still had to start On Demon Wings right away because I HAD to know what the hell was going on. So, alas it was another sleepless night for me. It's okay though, my delirium comes at the hands of a master.
Anyway.
At the beginning of On Demon Wings we find Perry trying to piece together a new life. A life with no Experiment in Terror and no Dex Foray. The horror!! A life with mind numbing coffee slinging and an over bearing family keeping an eagle eye on her, waiting for her to lose her mind. Or, lose it more than she already has. She's heartbroken, lost and haunted. Quite literally.
There is something dark and demonic making its presence known to Perry, popping up wherever she is and at the most inopportune times. It's determined to take over her life, or kill her and the only person that believes what is happening to Perry is her little sister Ada. Ada has a pivotal role. She shows her true colors and they shine pretty bright.
Maximus makes a return appearance in this chapter with the air of 'helping' Perry. Right into bed anyway (and boy was that scary hot). Maximus was gem I really wanted to crack but he lost a bit of his luster towards the end of this book.
When it looks like the demon is winning by any cost, Dex comes back into Perry's life. But is it too late for these two to save each other? It might just be and it's going to take more trust than Perry has for Dex to be able to save her.
I don't have the mental capacity or the pretty words to explain what it is Halle does so well, I wish I could do her justice. This is the most addictive, uniquely creative series with the perfect mix of lovably dysfunctional characters, terror, humor and obsessive relationships. I can not get enough.

When the life you wanted has crumbled beneath your fingers, there’s nothing left to do but pick up the pieces and soldier on. You’ve done this before.
But what happens when you no longer feel like yourself anymore? When fires spontaneously start-up around you, when you hear growling coming from underneath your bed, and you no longer recognize your face in the mirror. What happens then?
Ghost-hunter Perry Palomino doesn’t have much time to find out. Now, the evil she used to hunt is a lot closer to home. It’s inside of her, taking over her life bit-by-terrifying bit, and there’s only one person who can help her.
If part of her doesn’t kill him first.

Every book in the Experiment in Terror series gets better and better, as well as scarier and more addictive. There were some moments here that terrified me and I made sure that I never read it alone in the dark. On Demon Wings is beautifully sinister and harrowing account of an epic battle against demonic possession and loss of all sanity. An account I could not put down or read fast enough.“He was still a douchecanoe. The douchecanoe who was going to paddle me to safety.”

Five stars is not nearly enough. I need like a super star rating for this book, a huge gold star!!

wow, Ali! Such a raving review
ReplyDeleteIt seems like this book is really good and experiment in terror, such a strange and unique name!
Definitely adding this to my long TBR

It's such a great series, Soma!!
DeleteI just finished The Devil's Metal, and can't wait to read more by Karina Halle!
ReplyDeleteMy first Halle book was The Devil's Metal too!
DeleteAwesome! Do you know what the future books in the series will be like, or has she said? In the meantime, I guess I need to start this series!
DeleteAnd by that, I meant, do you know what the future books in the Devils series will be like, and in the meantime, I need to start EIT. Doh.
DeleteShe has not released much information on the 2nd book yet. It's called The Devil's Reprise and was expected this spring but The Devil's Metal was picked up by a publisher so I don't know if that changes everything. I think it is supposed to pick up pretty much where Metal left off.
DeleteCheck out her other books though, they are all really good. Especially if you like a little (a lot) of dysfunctional, crazy, humorous folks!!
As you have a black heart, I am confident that it'll grow back blacker and better after suffering the torture you went through. I love books that gets you all wrenched up inside, it becomes memorable.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I am sure you are right! They are more memorable, great point.
